Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be episode VII of the Star Wars storyline.

Teaser Trailer Observations

• While the Emperor is dead, at least some elements of the Empire still remain. Both Stormtroopers and TIE fighters appear in the teaser trailer.
• X-wings are still in service.
• The Millennium Falcon will appear in the film.
• Someone, presumably a Sith, has a red lightsaber with a "laser crossguard".

Second Teaser Trailer Observations

• Luke Skywalker's prosthetic hand no longer appears to be human, perhaps due to the situation making cosmetic maintenance a low priority.
• R2-D2 is still in service.
• The Galactic Empire (or whatever force now uses the Stormtroopers) has a different emblem now.
• A stray starfighter shot hitting the insides of a crashed capital ships causes a fireball bigger that the Millennium Falcon.
• Other stray shots don't appear to hit anything. It is possible that, in order to avoid collateral damage, they are set to dissipate harmlessly a certain distance past the target.
• Han Solo and Chewbacca are still alive and fighting.
