Okay, this is more EU nonsense, but would make interesting addition to EP3. Lots of you love Thrawn (I admit, he is a truly great villain). Some EU references state that, before the formation of the empire, a mission called the Outbound Flight Project was launched to search for intelligent life outside the galaxy proper. It carried 6 Jedi Masters. As soon as the expedition left Republic space, Thrawn, working under Palpatine's orders, destroyed it.

While this would be an oddball inclusion, it would make for some interesting plot material in EP3. C'baoth, the Jedi master, could be introduced as an influential person, and the Jedi Order could launch the Outbound Flight Project.

Palpatine could claim that the Jedi were killed by the Separatist forces, and use that to further enrage the populace. Or, he could make it look like the Jedi somehow attacked Republic ships, and use this to turn the galaxy against the Jedi Order. Or, this could be the first betrayal by Anakin. Perhaps he gave Darth Sidious/Palpatine crucial information about the expedition (maybe it was a Jedi secret?), and then Palpatine sent the young Thrawn to destroy it. The last possibility is that the Jedi purge could have already begun when the expedition is launched, and that this is just one of many attacks on the Jedi.

This is Extended Universe material, so maybe it will be dismissed as the nonsense that it is. Lucas is the only one who can ever know what his vision is. *Jedi mind trick...not...working* We'll see if it turns up. Any thoughts?
