Hi all, I'm happy that Mike gave us the opportunity to write in this forum so I am going to use it. I've seen AOTC and find it really good, but one thing quite annoy me. We learned that the Death Star plan was designed by the Separatists, or atleast was in their possession. We even saw some kind of canon on the
Republic LAAT (Low Altitude Assault Transport) Gunships that looked like the DS's superlaser. I agree with Mike that the technology used for the superlaser was probably common well before A New hope. But the problem I have with all that is Bevel Lemelisk role in all that.

Assuming that the Separatists have designed the plan, isn't it destroying the continuity?

For those who don't remember, Maw was a research facility near a black hole cluster, were the mighty battle station was prototyped and obviously, tested. It was believed too that most of the technologies of the DS were researched there. Prior to AOTC, Bevel Lemelisk was assuming to be the chief engineer of his developpement, along with Qwi Xux, and also the brain behind all of the plans. Here are the options I've considered :

1- Bevel was indeed the chief designer of the plan, working for the Separatist (or selling the plans to them) and was cloned by the Emperor to continue his research. (It's quite probable, considering that Bevel was cloned atleast one time during the classic Star Wars period.) Then at one point he supervised the DS construction and received all the honors for building it.

2- The DS wasn't designed by him, he " simply " prototyped and supervised the construction. The idea of the Empire have designed the plan is only propaganda. Surprising, isn'it?

3- The plans were not 100% completed, and Bevel Lemelisk have finished them, and after that built it.

What do you think? Have you other options?
