question: what's the relationship between sapience and artificial intelligence? --User:DreadPirateRobert
- I would venture that intelligence is the capacity to learn, while sapience is the ability to independently act on acquired knowledge (self-motivation). --Ted C 19:38, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, so Data and C-3PO would be sapient, while Daystrom's M5 computer would merely be AI?
- It would probably be sapient. Having bad judgement is still having judgement, and it did independently decide to exceed the parameters of its combat simulation. --Ted C 20:35, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
