Talk:Amphibious assault
I want to take the Siege of AR-558 back off of this page. There wasn't a resisted troop insertion there, but the Federation and Dominion forces were already on the surface. The only landing that occurred was Sisko beaming down to resupply the troops that were holding the communications center. Also, there's no reason that transporters couldn't be used as part of a planetary assault; they just change the way that troops make it to the surface. "Way of the Warrior" is closer, with Klingons inserting troops onto DS9 during a fight, but that's technically a boarding action. The example needs to have the defenders actively resisting the efforts of the attacker to get troops to the surface. --Ted C 07:18, 10 September 2013 (EDT)
There was a force of newly arriving Jem'Hadar bug ships that forced the Defiant to retreat during the episode. Unless I am mistaken these landed further troops for the final assault on the planet. Your reference to the Klingons does remind me of another episode where ground action does take place, where Jake runs into a dying Federation soldier.
