Government
Diplomacy
The Shinra Republic generally attempts to pursue conflicts through diplomatic means, and is usually viewed as one of the more 'diplomatic' members of the MESS alliance. However, the Republic is not above the use of force when it is deemed necessary.

The Navy has two principle types of "standing formations", the Battlegroup (BG) and Mine Warfare Squadron (MWS). The Battlegroup can be divided into a Carrier Element (which retains the BG designation) and an Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) centered around the LHD, LPD, and LSD. Escorts would be divided between the two elements as circumstances dictate. The Mine Warfare Squadron would generally be deployed to support major mineclearing operations. For smaller operations, detachments of MCMs and/or the MCC can be created as circumstances dictate. Ships not formally assigned to a BG or MWS can be utilized as supplements to either standing formation or in independent formations and patrols.

National Guard
Equipped and basically trained to the same standard of the Regular Army, however as they are the "one weekend a month, two weeks a year" type of units, their overall readiness and capability are not quite up to that of the Regular Army. By law, the National Guard cannot be deployed outside of the Republic itself, without special authority (very rarely granted).
