Confederate Apologism
Confederate Apologism is a political movement with the goal of marginalizing the instigation of the American Civil War by the South. They start by not referring to the war as the "Civil War" but as "The War of Northern Aggression." Of course, they do this because admitting that the South was actively rebelling against the authority of the United States of America is one of the many facts that they wish to suppress. They also tend to emphasize that the issues leading to the secession of the southern states were all about state's rights instead of the giant elephant in the room, slavery.
It does not bode well for these movements that the articles of secession for every state that joined the Confederacy included the preservation of slavery as one of its main reasons for the action.
