Setting
Avatar takes place on Pandora, a moon in which RDA, a mining company, has set up a mining colony. Its activities bring it conflict with indigenous primitive sapients known as the Na'vi.
Reception and Debate Position
Avatar's reception has been somewhat mixed. Most of it's criticism came over the fact that large sections of its plot have been used multiple times over by earlier films (such as Dances with Wolves and Ferngully: The Last Rainforest).
Despite that, it has been a big-budget hit and has come up in versus debates frequently because of it's success. That said, its ranking in terms of of versus scenarios is fairly low. Their is no FTL capacities and humanity has minimal extrasolar presence. Typical scenarios involve ground combat against the Na'vi and/or RDA Marines by small numbers of forces or survival in the dangerous jungles of Pandora.
