Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu served as helmsman for the Constitution-class starship USS Enterprise on its five-year exploration mission. He continued to serve on the ship until it was destroyed at the Genesis planet. Afterward, he served on the Enterprise-A, leaving only after being promoted to Captain and being given command of the USS Excelsior.
