Medi-gel is an emergency field dressing developed by the Sirta Foundation in Mass Effect. It is designed to close wounds, prevent infections, replace fluids, dull pain, and stabilize a patient until they can receive more thorough medical attention.
Military grade medi-gel may also contain stimulants to keep the patient combat capable. Medi-gel dispensers are commonly incorporated into body armor.
Sirta produces many medi-gel formulas optimized for the major interstellar races. Medi-gel for humans, for example, is not only useless but actually toxic for turians.
