The Galactic Civil War is the prolonged conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. The conflict began almost immediately after Supreme Chancellor Palpatine declared himself Emperor and continued for over two decades, although most of the major battles of the war took place in the last few years. The war eventually ended with the death of Emperor Palpatine at the Battle of Endor.
Origins of the Conflict
The group that would grow into the core leadership of the Rebellion was founded in the final year of the Clone Wars as a meeting of Senators interested in limiting Palpatine's growing wartime power. Some of this group's leaders, including Mon Mothma and Bail Organa of Alderaan would later go on to build the armed resistance against Palpatine's Galactic Empire.
Major Battles
Aftermath
After the Death of Emperor Palpatine, the Empire collapsed. Some high-ranking Imperial Officers survived, however, and the remaining Imperial forces evolved into the First Order.
