In Mass Effect, the Keepers are a race of intelligent (but not sapient) arthropods that exist to maintain and service the Citadel.
Keepers have for legs for locomotion and two arms for manipulation. They are generally oblivious to the activities of other Citadel occupants, performing maintenance and repairs according to their own mysterious priorities. They will often redo repairs made by the Citadel's humanoid occupants in order to restore the station to their own specifications.
