The American Revolutionary War was a conflict from 1775 to 1783 during which the majority of Great Britain's North American colonial assets separated from the British Empire over a number of issues including increased taxation, quartering of soldiers and allowing Catholics to continue to hold public office in newly conquered Quebec. Eventually and with aid from the French the colonials won, establishing the United States of America.
