The American Revolutionary War was a conflict from 1775 to 1783 during which the majority of Great Britain's North American colonial assets separated from the British Empire over a number of issues including increased taxation, quartering of soldiers and allowing Catholics to hold public office in newly conquered Quebec. Eventually and with aid from the French the colonials won, establishing the United State of America.
Politically this war was significant for the establishment of the US as well as the creation of a Constitutional Democratic State based on secular philosophies of the Age of Enlightenment.
