Droideka personal shields

Droideka 'Personal shields are the shields employed by some model of droideka.

Nature of the Shield

The Droideka was a dangerous attack droid not only because it sported dual repeating blasters, but because it carried a personal shield. This shield would be activated when the Droideka would open up 2 panels on the base of its "hip." The shield could absorb oncoming blaster bolts, leaving the Droideka to concentrate on firing its weaponry at the enemy, rather than seeking cover.

It should be noted that only the Droideka stationed on the Trade Federation ships and the palace on Naboo had personal shields, while the Droideka employed at the Battle of Geonosis did not. This may be due to the Droideka in the palace and on the ships were special models, equipped with the shields, while the Droideka at the Battle of Geonosis were 'mass-produced' Droideka, and thus would be too costly to fit the whole line of Droideka with a shield.
