The USS São Paulo relaced the Defiant at Deep Space Nine after the first ship's destruction at the Chin'toka Retreat. Sisko received special dispensation to rename the ship Defiant in honor of the previous ship but the vessel still lacked the cloaking device on the original. The ship fought through the remainder of the Dominion War, including the final Advance on Cardassia.
