An alpha strike is an attack in which a starship or other combat vessel fires all of its weapons (or all that can be brought to bear) simultaneously at a single target, attempting to destroy or cripple the target in one massive blow. For warships that use directed-energy weapons, this often means diverting power away from propulsion and energy-based defenses (such as shields).
