The Phoenix was a prototype warp-capable ship built by Zefram Cochrane, launched on April 5, 2063. It was humanity's first FTL-capable spacecraft in the Star Trek universe. Made from a converted intercontinental ballistic missile, the Phoenix flew a short distance at low warp before returning to Earth. This test flight caught the attention of a Vulcan scout ship, leading to Earth's first official contact with extraterrestrial life.
