Ro Laren is a Bajorian "tough girl" picked up out of prison by Picard because of her connections with certain members of a major Bajoran terrorist group. Rough around the edges Ro clashed with Riker repeatedly after coming onboard, only to eventually indulge in a short love affair with him after the crew lost all their memories (TNG, "Conundrum").
