— Dr. Leonard McCoy

Leonard McCoy is the chief medical officer of the Federation starship Enterprise in the 23rd century in Star Trek. He served on the Enterprise and the second Enterprise until it was decommissioned.

Leonard McCoy is a pragmatic doctor. He is known for his distrust of technology, especially transporters. When given the option, he will often use older but tried-and-true methods rather than the latest means of transportation.

His skills as a doctor make him one of the best, if not the best, doctor to ever serve in Starfleet. He found ways to eliminate invasive neural parasites and treat non-carbon based lifeforms. It is often an unfortunate nature of his job as ship's surgeon to have to declare injured landing party members dead.

Note: He is not an engineer, bricklayer, escalator....

Originally played by DeForrest Kelley, Karl Urban took over the role in the 2009 reboot.
