An Astro-Telepath or Astropath is a psyker who is capable of telepathic communication over interstellar distances. Astropaths are recruited and trained by the Adeptus Astra Telepathica.
Astropaths are created by the Emperor of Mankind in a ritual called "soul-binding". This ritual creates a link between the psyker and the Emperor that protects the psyker from hostile warp entities and enhances their telepathic powers. The soul-binding ritual is traumatic for the psyker, typically resulting in the reduction or loss of some senses, especially eyesight.
