This is that ship that splits into three ships.. While right jaming techology it could in theoy disable two of three part starship if the starship does not have two battle briges. If it does is is very good idia for differnt reason. First fact make starship turn three smell target making it hard to hit. After all the biger the target easily it is to hit. Secound it makes the enemy have to target more one target at a time. The only deside to it is might weaken it weapons and might make each piece of starship easily to destory. Multi-Vector Assault Mode

The Prometheus-class

This is that ship that splits into three ships. Yeah, it's a really stupid idea: get three bad destroyer-size vessels from one bad cruiser-sized one. Oddly, it kicks Romulan ass even when crewed by incompetent holograms. Since we only ever saw it in one episode of Voyager, its abilities are dubious at best. The decision to split up the ship this way presumably takes advantage of limitations on the enemy's ability to target multiple opponents and vulnerability of shields to attacks from multiple directions.

On an engineering level, it means that the ship requires three sets of all of the major systems, only smaller then a single powerplant. While this does give the ship a level of redundancy, it is no guarantee that the vessel has more power available in either mode. While the central saucer section does not seem to have visible nacelles, it operates as if it does have warp drive.

Having three warp cores does look good on paper on a superficial level; however, it does mean that the ship has to include space for all those systems, reducing the remaining space for weapons, crew and other vital systems. This may be why the multi-vector assault mode appears to be dropped from the design.
