The Battle of Coruscant was fought between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems over the Republic capital of Coruscant.
History
In the late stages of the Clone Wars, Count Dooku and General Grievous launched a surprise raid on the Republic capital of Coruscant. During the battle, a commando force of battle droids reached the surface and "captured" Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, taking him off the planet to the Separatist capital ship, the Invisible Hand.
Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker boarded the Invisible Hand from their Jedi starfighters during the space battle in an effort to rescue the Supreme Chancellor. They located him in the ship's observation tower, where they were confronted by Count Dooku. A lightsabre duel ensued in which Obi-Wan was knocked out, but Anakin defeated and killed Dooku.
On the way back to the hangar to escape, the Jedi and Chancellor were cut off by ray shields, captured by battle droids, and taken to the ship's bridge for interrogation by General Grievous. On the bridge, the Jedi used their abilities to escape their bonds and attempted to capture or kill Grievous, but he escaped.
Badly damaged in the battle, the Invisible Hand fell from orbit and was crash-landed by Anakin, returning the Chancellor safely to the planet's surface.
