A region of space near the [[Kessel Run]] comprised of a gargantuan amount of [[Black Holes]] in close proximity. Inside the depths of the Maw lay the top secret [[Maw Institute]] where some of the greatest minds of the [[Empire]] toiled away in secrey, creating such artifacts as the [[Death Star|Death Star Prototype]], the [[Sun Crusher]] and other [[Super weapons]].

One effect of the black holes is that runners of the [[Kessel Run]] can shorten time as well as space via dangerous routes or [[Hyperspace|Microjumps]]. The best known example of this is [[Han Solo]] achieving the run in less than 12 [[Parsecs]], a measure of distance, not time.
