The battle of Hoth was a major victory for the Rebel Alliance in the Galactic Civil War.
History
Following the destruction of the first Death Star, the Rebel Alliance relocated their base of operations from Yavin 4 to the uninhabited planet Hoth.
Imperial probe droids eventually located the base, and a fleet led by Darth Vader -- composed of several Imperial Star Destroyers led by the Executor -- moved in to destroy the base. The Rebels activate planetary shield system that prevented the Imperial fleet from directly bombarding the base, forcing the Empire to deploy Stormtroopers and AT-AT Walkers to approach under the shield to eliminate that defense.
The battle was a major defeat for the rebellion, costing them a great deal in equipment and manpower in their hasty evacuation of the base.
