The B2 Super Battle Droid (or SBD) is a model of combat droid, designed by Baktoid Combat Automata. They are used alongside the lighter battle droids as heavy infantry.
History
The SBD was first deployed by the Trade Federation and subsequently adopted by the Techno Union and Confederacy of Independent Systems. They saw extensive action during the Clone Wars as ground troops[1].
Following the end of the Clone Wars, the SBD was retired. Some units were later reactivated to serve in private hands; a number were successfully deployed against the Yuuzhan Vong[2].
Description
The Super Battle Droid has a humanoid shape developed out of that of the B1. However, it is better armoured, especially around the torso; this allows it withstand some small arms fire. One of the B1's main flaws was it's reliance on a droid control ship's signal, which was rectified in the B2 by providing it with more robust, albeit violent and temperamental, AI. It is fitted with a dual blaster and capable of operating customized rifles[3].
