A repulsor is an advanced propulsion system developed by Tony Stark.
A repulsor is more robust than a conventional jet turbine. It can apparently "repulse" any ambient fluid to generate thrust, allowing it to operate in a variety of adverse conditions, such as underwater. It does not appear to be a rocket, however, meaning that it will not operate in a vacuum.
Repulsors can be weaponized to generate concentrated beams of heat and force with a range of at least tens of meters.
Repulsors are highly scalable. They have been used in applications ranging from artillery sub-munitions to Stark's Iron Man armor to SHIELD helicarriers.
Note
In Star Trek, a tractor beam in reverse is occasionally called a repulsor.
