The Low Altitude Assault Transport (LAAT) was a class of repulsorlift gunship fielded by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. Several variants were produced to fufill different combat roles.
Specifications
Despite its "low altitude" description, the LAAT is capable of descending from orbit and returning to space to rendevous with a starship. Typical armament includes "mini-superlaser" ball turrets and assorted missiles. The standard model can carry a squad of troops, who embark and deploy through large side hatches. The transport has shields that are effective against small arms fire.
Variants
- LAAT/i (Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry)-The most common variant, the LAAT/i was designed to ferry infantry across the battlefield and to provide aerial fire support to ground forces with a powerful arsenal of three anti-personnel laser turrets, four composite beam cannons, and a pair of missile launchers.
- LAAT/c (Low Altitude Assault Transport/carrier)-LAAT/c was designed to transport and deploy vehicles such as the AT-TE Walker, but was far more lightly armed than its infantry carrying counterpart, with only three anti-personnel laser turrets.
