The United States Army is the main land-based branch of the United States military.
History
The US Army had it's origins in the colonial Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The army had a rather rocky start, as it began using a majority of volunteer "Minuteman" militia units that were not able to fight on an extended basis. Under the Continental Congress, a more formal army was organized under the command of George Washington.
The United States Army served in numerous conflicts with various Native American Tribes and in wars in various theaters. It showed a make up of volunteer and professional units that served as a unified force up until the outbreak of the American Civil War, which required its commanders and soldiers picking sides in the conflict.
In the twentieth century, the Army served as the core of the American involvement in both the Great War and World War II. The US Army soon showed it's ability to make multiple and coordinated amphibious assaults. Because of the massive material superiority of the US logistical production and supply system, Allied troops were extremely well equipped.
The US Air Force began as the air arm of the US Army until it was organized as a separate arm post WWII.

Army Anthem
Over hill, over dale As we hit the dusty trail, And the Caissons go rolling along. In and out, hear them shout, Counter march and right about, And the Caissons go rolling along.
Then it's hi! hi! hee! In the field artillery, Shout out your numbers loud and strong, For where e'er you go, You will always know That the Caissons go rolling along.
In the storm, in the night, Action left or action right See those Caissons go rolling along Limber front, limber rear, Prepare to mount your cannoneer And those Caissons go rolling along.
Then it's hi! hi! hee! In the field artillery, Shout out your numbers loud and strong, For where e'er you go, You will always know That the Caissons go rolling along.
Was it high, was it low, Where the hell did that one go? As those Caissons go rolling along Was it left, was it right, Now we won't get home tonight And those Caissons go rolling along.
Then it's hi! hi! hee! In the field artillery, Shout out your numbers loud and strong, For where e'er you go, You will always know That the Caissons go rolling along. That the Caissons go rolling along. That the Caissons go rolling along.
