Planetary Defense Forces are various militia organizations in the Imperium of Man used for local defense. Sections of PDF forces are often incorporated into Imperial Guard regiments.
By order of the Imperium, all planets must provide for their own defense, so PDF regiments are generally armed and equipped with materiel available on the planet or purchasable nearby. In the event of an attack, the PDF forces are expected to repel the invaders or at least hold the planet until Imperial reinforcements arrive.
