The Krogan are a species from the Mass Effect universe
Attributes
Krogan are large, heavily built reptile-like humanoids. Krogan are strong, durable and adaptable creatures with life spans measured in centuries.
History
The Krogan Homeworld of Tuchanka was home to a wide array of aggressive fauna, which was only pushed back after the Krogan developed advanced weapons technology, eventually devastating their planet in nuclear war. Harsh conditions (either from the local ecology or brought about by thermonuclear devastation) kept their population in check. Expansion into space began after the Salarians transported Krogan off their homeworld and gave them advanced technology so they could fight another species (the Rachni). The Krogan won, but they became a problem themselves when removed from the hostile environment of their homeworld, which had kept their numbers in check. To mitigate the new Krogan threat, the Salarians introduced a genetically engineered disease called the Genophage to the Krogan population, sharply reducing their fertility.
