Socialism refers to a set of schools of thought based around the concept that it is beneficial for society to function together to minimize diferences between socio-economic classes. One who subsbribes to said schools of thought is known as a Socialist.
While Social Democratic policies have been sucsessful in Europe, in the United States, significant sections of the population have developed a strong fear of Socialism and anything they perceive as being Socialist.
