Hoshi Sato is an insecure communications officer assigned to the USS Enterprise. She has an intuitive knack for languages that makes her a more effective translator than the computer programs designed for the task, but she persists in using the computer anyway.

Mirror Universe

Hoshi takes charge

In the Star Trek mirror universe, Hoshi was the "captain's woman" to Captain Forrest, the captain of the ISS Enterprise. She took advantage of circumstances when the alternate Jonathan Archer, the first officer of the Enterprise, obtained the USS Defiant from the normal timeline, which had fallen into the mirror universe.

Archer hoped to use the Defiant to dominate the Empire, but Hoshi assassinated him after he recovered the futuristic starship and used it to declare herself Empress (ENT "In a Mirror, Darkly").
