Science fiction theme songs. Note that none of these renditions come from their respective original motion picture soundtracks, so you can probably spot differences if you listen carefully. For example, the Imperial March has more prominent percussion than the original soundtrack version, which I like because it accentuates the military nature of the piece. Note that all files are in MP3 format. Where bitrates are not specified, the files were encoded using the LAME encoder on Linux, with VBR (variable bitrate) encoding at default quality for smaller files and quality=5 for larger files.

Mars, Bringer of War (5.6MB, click here. This was composed by Gustav Holst as part of his "Planets" suite rather than part of a movie soundtrack. It is interesting from a sci-fi perspective because it was composed during the era of silent films and you can still hear its influence in sci-fi soundtracks to this day).

Star Wars Imperial March by SKWEEG (3.6 MB 160 kbps, click here). This was actually sent to me by Steve Page, who plays guitars and keys in the band. They're on the IUMA website, and they also have a website at www.SKWEEG.com (although I think you need the Macromedia Flash plug-in to view it), as well as some more stuff at www.mp3.com/SKWEEG.
