M26A1 Pershing by Oragus

The M26A1 replaced the 90mm M3 gun of the M26 with the improved 90mm M3A1 gun. The only differences apparent externally was that the M3 had a double-baffle muzzle brake, while the M3A1 had a single baffle brake. Other than the switch in main guns, there were no real differences otherwise between the M26 and M26A1.

M26 Super Pershings by Ryan Crierie, using Oragus' Icons as a Base.

Frontal view of the production series T26E4s, showing how the counter-balance system has been moved under armor.

The T26E4 series Pershings were armed with the 90mm T15xx series long-barrelled (70 caliber) guns.

The first pilot model with the exposed counter-balance system (the two cylinders on top of the turret) to balance the extra length and weight of the longer gun barrel, was delivered overseas to the 3rd Armored Division's Maintenance Battalion on March 15, 1945; and consequently saw ten days of actual combat before V-E Day. This first pilot was equipped with the T15E1 model gun, which fired very long, fixed-piece ammunition, which was very difficult to manuver around in the turret.

Consequently the later "production" models of the T26E4, which also moved the counter-balance system into the turret and under armor, were equipped with the T15E2 gun, which while ballistically similar to the T15E1, used two-piece ammunition.

Penetration statistics for the T15 series guns were as follows:

T43 AP Shot (APBC-T; 3,200 ft/sec)
132mm @ 30 degree angle @ 500 yds
127mm @ 30 degree angle @ 1000 yds
124mm @ 30 degree angle @ 1500 yds
122mm @ 30 degree angle @ 2000 yds

T44 HVAP Shot (APCR-T; 3,750 ft/sec)
244mm @ 30 degree angle @ 500 yds
221mm @ 30 degree angle @ 1000 yds
196mm @ 30 degree angle @ 1500 yds
173mm @ 30 degree angle @ 2000 yds

M26 Pershing with T99 Multiple Rocket Launchers by Ryan Crierie, using Oragus' and SPCAMO's icons as a Base.

From Hunnicutt's Pershing: Efforts to increase the tank's firepower led to the installation of the 4.5 inch multiple rocket launcher T99 consisting of two launchers, one on each side of the turret with a combined total of 44 rockets.

The rockets could be fired individually, in salvos of two, or by full automatic ripple fire. With the latter, all 44 rockets could be fired in about seven seconds.
