How is this arrogance? An army without leaders isn't much of an army; these leaders are the jedi knights. Rescuing the Jedi was a necessity, regardless of the casualties.
I disagree with both of you. Its not a matter of being more important, it is a matter of morals. Lets take an exsample of modren day military rescues, well heck just look at the US Rangers motto "Leave no man behind" Why risk all the Jedi for just Obi-Won? Secondly it was a pre-emptive strike on the sepertists HQ planet (or so I assume it was, they were all meeting there)
Also with symbolism, how can you forget the servered limb symbolising change????????????? It in every episode except TPM. Everytime a limb is cut-off the story takes a turn.
