If one is interested in the threaded-style forums, RPGBoard might be worth a spin. Free (GPL), highly customizable, archiver, admin, dictionary/slang dictionary, preview functions, user registration options, etc built in.
Does take a little bit longer for the initial set-up than a WWWBoard though. I also note that I can't access the Resonatorsoft site for it. http://tucows.sympatico.ca/linux/internet/preview/9938.shtml might work though.
