Although I'm not a big fan of the EU either, I would really like to see the kind of hardware they're using in the classic trilogy.
The VicStar is basically a smaller version of the ISD with little wings, and if they appeared (together with early TIE variants), it would be made clear that the Republic has now more or less become the Empire we all know and love from the classics.
Having the ImpStar in Episode 3 would basically be even cooler, but that would fuck up continuity even more.
